Description
The Association runs playschemes, early years, inclusion work, youth work and there is also meeting and office space for hire with on site creche area. The association was formed by local residents in 1994 to develop the capability and potential of unemployed youth and adults in the Birkin Patch area, and to encourage positive physical improvements to the local environment.
Since 1994 it has instigated various improvements including traffic calming, alley and car-park gating, CCTV, play park improvements and the establishment of its own youth and community centre in a refurbished pub. This ‘community activism’ was used as part of the evidence required for Nottingham’s successful New Deal for Communities bid.
The building has been renamed T.A.R.D.I.S. - Training And Resources Developing Inner-city Solidarity. It opened in 2001 as a base for multicultural youth and play work in the area with qualified staff delivering quality work registered with Ofstead. Currently we are operating with one full time member of staff plus some dedicated volunteers and are looking for more funding to reinstate a full programme of services.
