Description

The scheme aims to enhance the befriending support available to adults who have enduring mental health difficulties and have difficulties in engaging with mainstream mental health services.

Volunteering opportunity:
Community befriender - befriending in a wide variety of settings.
Ward-based befriender - befriending on an acute psychiatric ward.
Qualities required: Patience, reliability, friendly + approachable, good communication + listening skills, honest,
non-judgemental attitude. Able to engage effectively with support. Insight into mental health issues.
Time:  Flexible arrangements- wanted Mon-Sun, 9am - 9pm

The Assertive Outreach Befriending Scheme works in partnership with the Nottingham Healthcare NHS Trust to develop the opportunities for volunteer-based befriending of those people in Nottingham, Greater Nottingham, Newark and Sherwood. By developing a new contribution to the social inclusion agenda in mental health, the scheme aims to provide a range of impacts on individual service -users that promote well-being, self-confidence and engagement with wider mental health services.
