Description

The Marcus Garvey Day Centre & Alzheimer’s Group is a registered charity and was established in 1984. The charity provides social, leisure, cultural and educational activities appropriate to the needs and abilities of the individuals. It provides opportunities and access primarily for black elders who are isolated in their homes.

It promotes the welfare of the aged who are residents in the city of Nottingham, particularly those of African and African Caribbean origin, by providing day care, luncheon clubs facilities and reminisence therapy for elders with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Other beneficiaries of the service are elders who are aged 55 or more who may be incapacitated through strokes, arthritis, age and / or mobility related conditions which severely restrict their ability to function at home. They wish to remain in the community but would like support during the day by attending the day centre.
