Description
Provides information and support by phone, letter and e-mail for Lesbians, Gay men, Bisexuals and transgender people, can help with information on social facilities, accommodation, safer sex/HIV, support groups, legal issues, coming out, police liaison, publications, or for people who just need to talk.
Switchboard fulfils the following roles:
Operates a telephone helpline Monday to Friday 7-10 PM
Provides training for its volunteers and for other organisations on LGB awareness etc.
Produces a bi-monthly free LGB newsletter (QB) - also available online at http://www.nlgshistory.ik.com
Maintains a comprehensive database of LGBT facilities and services along with routes for referral to other agencies
Supports over 40 local LGBT social/self help groups.
Services aimed at: Lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people;
People concerned for the welfare of the above e.g. their friends, partners, families and colleagues;
Organisations which require information on the concerns and needs of LGBT people and how to
address those concerns and needs.
Organises events and conferences
Is developing an on-going history project which has produced valuable resources which are useful for training, displays and exhibitions
Participates in community forums and consultation groups
Provides opportunities for volunteering
