Description
The Women’s Centre aims to offer a safe environment for all women to come together to gain confidence, develop skills, take part in training, get support and organise groups, activities and services. It also offers women a place to meet, to be a focus for information and resources about women’s issues, and to provide opportunities for women to volunteer.
About Nottingham Women’s Centre & The T.E.D. Project (Training, Employment & Development):
Nottingham Women’s Centre is a city-wide community centre in the heart of Nottingham offering a wide-range of training, career information, advice and guidance, childcare facilities and crisis support. The Training, Employment and Development Project runs training courses e.g. confidence building, computer courses, arts & crafts and much more. Four workspaces for women to start their own businesses from/at the Centre are also available.
The T.E.D. Project and Nottingham Women’s Centre have very close links with Women’s Aid, Nottingham Rape Crisis Centre, Roshni Asian Women’s Aid, Nottingham Women’s Support Service (supporting survivors of physical and mental abuse), SHE (support project for incest survivors) and the Counselling Service all of which run services from and are based at the Women’s Centre so they are in an ideal position to quickly and easily refer women on to the training and other T.E.D. Project services.
The T.E.D. Project and Nottingham Women’s Centre already has close links with and has referrals from a range of agencies across the city such as voluntary sector emergency, short term housing support and advice services, health groups, training organisations etc as well as statutory probation officers, social services, health visitors and statutory and voluntary sector mental health services.
Nottingham Women’s Centre and the Training, Employment & Development Project’s services are mainly used and accessed by women who are disadvantaged (in terms of being on a low income and benefits, race, disability, working class, previous or current users of mental health services, single parents) and are living in areas of high deprivation or are currently living in refuges, emergency or short term accommodation such as hostels and survivors of domestic violence, rape, incest and vulnerable families. The Centre is used by women from all backgrounds, classes, incomes, ages, communities such as Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, African and Caribbean women and women from other ethnic origins such as Chinese, Vietnamese and abilities from across Nottingham with priority given to single parents, Asian women, African and Caribbean women and women from other ethnic origins and disabled women. It receives minimal running costs from Nottingham City Council.
This is achieved in conjunction with our equal opportunities statement.
