Description
The Organisation for Sickle Cell Anaemia Research, more commonly known as OSCAR, is now a registered charity providing services in Nottingham since 1983.
Services We Offer:
* We provide a safe and comfortable drop in facility where people can come to browse information and discuss any problems they may be experiencing on a one-to-one basis and in complete confidence.
* In offering support to our clients we make referrals to other agencies whenever specialist services may be required to meet exceptional needs such as housing, respite for carers and welfare rights.
*A Welfare Rights Advice session is also open at OSCAR on Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm. Appointments can be made at OSCAR.
* We also encourage client-led support groups for parents of children with Sickle Cell Disorders and client-led support groups for young people who have Sickle Cell blood disorders.
* We are open from 9.30 to 5.00, Monday to Friday.
We can help you by:
* Providing the practical help and support for those with Sickle Cell Disorders, their families and carers.
* Free ADVICE SESSIONS. Confidential and independent advice on cash benefits (including Disability Living Allowance). Sessions are carried out in complete privacy by a professional and dedicated Officer from Nottingham City Council’s Welfare Rights Service
* Advocating on behalf of those with Sickle Cell Disorders when situations warrant.
* Educating community groups, statutory and voluntary groups about Sickle Cell Disorders and related matters which may arise from having these disorders.
* Providing home and hospital visits when desired or requested.
* When appropriate, participating and facilitating the gathering of data for ongoing research into Sickle Cell Disorders following consultation and with the consent of our service users.
* Providing counselling and screening by referral to the Nottingham Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Service (by appointment only).
* Offer training and access to table top computers and internet facilities. All you need do is drop-in or make an appointment.
* Providing educational and recreational excursions for S/C sufferers and their carers/families
