Description
The Radford Visiting Scheme is a local charity set up in 1985 and its aim is to increase the quality of life of people who are isolated and vulnerable due to old age, illness or disability.

The Visiting Scheme
A volunteer visitor will visit, support, and befriend an older person, visiting them on regular basis, usually once a week. Volunteers will also take the client out shopping for example, but we also organise group shopping trips. As part of our services we also disseminate information to the client, e.g. welfare rights, flu jab campaign, keeping warm in winter etc. We visit and support 40 clients and we have 36 volunteers. Most of our clients are referred to us by Social Services and our volunteers come from all walks of life but most live or work locally. We have 4 student volunteers from Nottingham’s 2 universities.
Radford Healthy Living 50+ Project
The Radford Healthy Living 50+ Project commenced in October 2005 and is funded by the National Lottery for 3 years. Radford Healthy Living 50+ Project promotes good health by organising:
Healthy lunches and cooking sessions
Speakers to promote discussion about disabilities, C.H.D. etc.
Physical activities - Exercises, Tai Chi, Badminton, Salsa!!!
We are also recruiting and training mentors who will work with and encourage people to do more exercise and change unhealthy diets.
