Description
Roshni NAWA provides a confidential and non-judgmental space for South Asian women and all women who have left abusive/living in abusive relationships.
We work to realise our aim through a strategy that combines service provision, advocacy, community awareness and organising. We believe that we will best realise our goal of social change through mobilising our community to take a stand against abuse, while also addressing the immediate and critical needs of individual survivors of violence.
Asian women survivors of domestic violence are confronting significant challenges in seeking to escape the violence in their lives. In addition to the barriers that all survivors of violence face, South Asian women may also struggle against additional language barriers and cultural restrictions.
We offer the following services:
Safe house for South Asian women with or without children fleeing a violent relationship or family
Provide women with information about options and rights and crisis intervention
Advocates on behalf of all women and provide information so women can make their own informed decisions about possible courses of action
Offer ongoing emotional/practical support to all women who access the services
Assist with welfare rights, legal matters, housing options, nationality and immigration and how to access other services signpost
Assist all women to access health care, referrals to sexual abuse counselling services
City outreach services for all women who may be living in a violent relationship by providing emotional and practical support
County outreach service for South Asian women living in a violent relationship by providing emotional and practical support long term
Training/awareness for community groups, organisation voluntary and statuary on the impact of domestic violence/abuse on South Asian women/children and BME communities
