Description

The Skills Exchange is a Time Bank and it is open to all residents of Area 4.

The Skills Exchange is a chance for local people and organisations to share their time and skills with others and receive help back in return.

For every hour a member spends helping someone else, they will earn 1 time credit. One hours work equals one time credit no matter what skills are used. All skills have equal value.

Skills that can be exchanged are very varied and limited only by your imagination. Some examples of skills that have been exchanged in other Time Banks are as follows: shopping, letter writing, leaflet delivery, gardening, cooking, dog walking, Tai Chi, befriending…
The Skills Exchange differs from conventional volunteering because a member will give and also receive help.

The Skills Exchange is particularly aimed at people who haven’t vounteered before and who may be isolated at home, though everyone is welcome!

It is free to join the Skills Exchange. There is an application form and, for the reassurance of members, we take two references. If people wish to help children or vulnerable adults they will have to complete a CRB (Police) check. Once references have been received then people are invited to meet the Skills Exchange staff and will sign an agreement, all very friendly over a cup of tea!

Organisations can also be involved in the Skills Exchange.
